Achieving Flexible and Convertible Open Space Design

This Arc3D™ Duo installation is an example of achieving convertible open space design. DoorWall Systems provides architects with the flexibility and expertise to execute even the most challenging design concepts providing unique and innovative building features.

A Showcase of Excellence: The Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering

A recent example of DoorWall’s capabilities is the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. This 186,000 square foot new construction project required a seamless indoor-outdoor connection with specific aesthetic requirements to match adjacent curtain walls.

Design Intent:

- Create a blended opening between the building’s interior and exterior spaces

- Maximize open space, glass, and natural light

- Serve as a focal design element, seamlessly integrated when closed and intriguing when open

 Challenges:

- Achieving an exact glass match for the bi-folding operable wall system

- Matching adjacent curtain wall with specific color and aesthetic requirements

Solution:

In collaboration with DoorWall’s authorized installing distributor, Specified Building Products, we successfully coordinated an elegant and seamless integration. The Arc3D™ Duo, a bi-folding vertical wall from DoorWall Systems, provided an exact match of the architecturally significant glass between the curtain wall and the operable wall system.

This project is a testament to DoorWall’s  commitment to maintaining design integrity while meeting technical and aesthetic requirements. Our solutions not only enhance the visual appeal, but also align with the architect's design intent for convertible open space.
